February Birthstone
This amethyst stone is in at pretty setting to offer the wearer a vintage pin that may never go out of style. Match it to nearly anything in your wardrobe. Accent a scarf, blazer, coat, hat or whatever you little pin desires. Someone even suggested it to be used as an accessory in your hair. Stone does appear to change color based on the fabric to which it is pinned. Possibly a late 19th century piece.
Pin is a 1-1/2" by 1" oval with 4 pretty filigree setting is visible at each "corner". Brooch is made with a C-clasp usually denotes pre-1900 jewelry. The safety clasp was invented in 1901 and used in most jewelry by 1910. Some makers use the simple C-clasp, but mostly in plastic pins.
I have not had the stone tested to check to see if this is a natural, synthetic or imitation amethyst. There are some scratches (not readily visible to the naked eye)and a ding (can be seen with the naked eye, but, unless you are looking for it, it's hard to see).
